Physical Education News
New PE teachers are faced with many roadblocks that may contribute to Wash_out. Here are some problems and characteristics that are responsible :

Reality Shock- distress experienced due to inadequate preparation during teacher training.

Isolation- geographic and /or professional seclusion

Marginalization- negative perseptions associated with physical education and PE teachers

Workload- duties and responsibilities in addition to teaching load

Deprofessionalization-returning to unproven teaching practices and not staying current in the PE profession

STRATGIES for SUCCESS;

Formal mentoring program
Use current curriculum and tools
Workshops/conferences
Advanced teaching degrees
Action research
Self and peer evaluations
Organize collaborative events within and between schools
GAME of the MONTH:

POP CAN RUN:

    THE RULES
  1. Get six used soda pop can for each team
  2. Make six teams
  3. Place the cans about 30 feet away
  4. Shape them in a pyramid with 3 on the bottom , then stack two , then one on top
  5. Insert one(opposite) team member behind each set of cans
  6. The first person in line rolls a ball to knock over cans
  7. The "setter"must hurry and re-fix the cans
  8. The "roller " must run to a contact line in front of the can and back
  9. If there is a miss(no cans) , next person goes in order
  10. Play stops when all the cans are set back up
  11. A new " setter " is chosen each time
  12. Score one point for each can down and the # of contact lines touched

    Common problems
  • stretch and warm up before you ride
  • condition back muscles by doing sit ups and pelvic bridges
  • Make gradual increases on a weekly basis regarding distance
  • know your limitations and stay within skill level
  • Drink plenty of fluids
